I started riding an upright townie bike in 2012 to regain my mobility. That lead to building a custom Soma Touring bike, that lead to a coastal tour to California for a fresh avocado.
I ride daily for transpo, which includes lots of gravel and connector trails to hardware & grocery stores, and every coffee shop along the way. You would think roads are quicker, well, so what? No rides from the rack and back for me. I get places while listening to buzzing gravel and the chatter of red squirrels on rail trails and unpaved mountain roads. These are my super highways and backwoods corridors.
Look at bike sales these days. The largest growing sector is the category of Road Plus, Gravel and Adventure Bikes. It really can be any bike though. It can be a 3 speed 70’s Sturmy Archer, a Soma Saga with 26” wheels, a Jones Plus with 27.5”x3” Teravail Coronado’s, a full sus mtb, it all rolls.
So point your stem to where the pavement ends and add a few spokes to your saggy rims.
